An Unlucky Day

This is a record of Kai's 2nd writing for his school. We hope to be able to get him to write more and encourage him to read wide and write more interesting and creative writing.

Kai’En had an exhilarating day at Universal Studio. The events of the day kept running through his mind and his feeling of excitement was so overpowering that he could not fall asleep. By the time he fell asleep, it was already past midnight.

In the morning, he woke up on the wrong side of his bed and he frowned when he looked at his alarm clock, it indicated quarter to seven. He realized that he had overslept and he would be late. He hurriedly jumped out of his bed and rushed to the bathroom to clean up. He changed into his uniform as quickly as he could. He picked up his schoolbag and scurried down the stairs and ran to the bus-stop. As he was running to the bus-stop, he did not see a banana-peel and slipped. As he landed on his buttock, a bird flew by and bird-dropping landed on his head. He picked himself up quickly and sped off to the bus-stop. Little did he expect that the bus would vroom off without him. He tried to catch the bus but he missed it. Without any choice, he had to walk to school.

While he was walking to school, Kai’En decided to take a short cut and jumped over a fence. He did not notice that there was a dog there. The dog barked at him ferociously. Kai’En was startled and he ran for his life. The furious dog chased after him all the way to school entrance. He was breathless when he reached there. Thankfully, the school guard came to his rescue and he picked up a stick and chased the dog away.

When he reached his classroom, he was as pale as a ghost. His teacher, Mr Tan, stared at him sternly. Kai’En hurriedly apologized to Mr Tan for being late. Mr Tan accepted his apology and advised him to sleep early in the future. Kai’En went to his seat and lesson continued.

After half an hour, the recess bell rang and all the students lined up to go for their recess. By then, Kai’En’s stomach was grumbling since he had no breakfast. When he reached the canteen, he searched his pocket frantically. To his dismay, he could not find his wallet and the coins in his pocket were also missing. He realized that he could have dropped them during the chase. He was very hungry but he was too embarrassed to ask Mr Tan for help. So he went hungry for the whole day. What an unlucky day for him!

A Day at the Beach

It was the Labour day long weekend, my parents decided to bring us to East Coast Park for a picnic. My mummy prepared yummy tuna sandwiches, juicy and delicious chicken wings and iced cold lemonade in the early, bright and shiny morning. My brother, Ray, and I packed our swimming wear, beach equipment, picnic mat and sunblock lotion into the bags. Then, my dad helped to load the bags and the food basket into the boot of the car. And we set off in high spirit.

We arrived at our destination after a short pleasant drive. Daddy and I helped to take everything out from the boot and we hurried off to look for a cool, shady spot to set up our mat. My brother and I managed to find a perfect spot under a shady big tree. After setting up our mat, my brother and I quickly changed into our swimming wears, brought along our water guns for a game of water battle. We ran to the water with my daddy following behind us trying to get us to apply our sunblock lotion. We had a lot of fun shooting at each other before we decided to go back to build sandcastle. While we were heading back to collect our pails and spates, the merry-makers began to fill the beach. Some were sunbathing while other were relaxing under shady spots reading or chatting. We took our pails and gathered seashells at the beach and returned back to build our sandcastle with our parents. We managed to build a majestic sandcastle decorated beautifully with seashells. Then my daddy decided to teach my brother how to swim.

We raced each other to the waters and I got there first, followed by my daddy and my brother. My dad began to teach my brother how to swim in the water while I swam as fast as a torpedo within the two flags. The waves were very strong and kept swept me back and I have to swim with all my might. My brother, Ray, was having a lot of fun splashing water at my daddy. When I swam close to him, he decided to splash water at me. We were enjoying ourselves in the water and my mummy could hear our laughters. Then our stomachs were grumbling that we could felt them growling in hunger. We decided to head back to the picnic mat to enjoy a sumptuous meal.

When we reached the picnic mat, my mummy was listening to music in the radio while she was spreading out the food. We sat down to eat the delicious food and enjoy the cool breeze. Ray and I gobbled up our food as we were famished. After our lunch, we went to clean ourselves up while my mummy packed everything. It was a tiring but enjoyable day for us at the beach.

(This composition is written by Kai as his first piece of writing for his new term in a new school in a new environment. We have moved back to our own country and it is a transitional phase for him to get use to the new system here. It is written based on a 4-picture writing for a Primary 2 class.)

An Arrognant Plane

Once upon a time. there in Planeland live Banano, a humble, hardworking and friendly plane. He liked to help and share with the other planes.

One day, in Planeland came a colourful new plane, Proudo. He was obnoxious and arrognant. He always thought he was the smartest and never listened to others. One stormy day, Banano told Proudo not to fly but he did not listen. He moved to the runway, took off and flew into the sky. Suddenly, he was struck by lightning. Proudo lost control, crashed to the ground and was on fire. Banano and the firefighters came to his rescue to put the fire out.

Proudo was grateful to Banano and the firefighters for saving him. He had learnt his lesson and from that day onward, Proudo became a amicable plane.
